We Didn’t Dereg the System (But We Let It Burn)
An Economic History of the Modern American Wreckage Cycle, Set to Rage and Rhythm
Context: While researching the OBBB, a conversation arose regarding the themes of budgets and values, which led to an examination of what the last few administrations valued based on their budgets. Naturally, this resulted in the inescapable pattern of every modern Republican inheriting a decent economy and torching it with tax cuts for the wealthy and military spending, followed by a Democrat coming in to a fiscal crisis and playing clean up. It starts with Reagan, because of course it does. Naturally, we took this notion to ChatGPT and accidentally spawned a parody song. Don’t blame us. AI made us do it. ;)
First, it generated this when we mentioned that this pattern reminded us of “We Didn’t Start the Fire”.
Reagan, tax cuts, airline strike
Dereg bank rules, debt spike
Contra funds, Gipper grin
Budget holes we’re still stuck inClinton tries to fix the mess
Glass-Steagall dies under press
Bush the Second, tax again
Two wars and a housing scamObama catches Wall Street’s fall
Stimulus but not for all
Trump returns with trickle lies
COVID hits, the market criesWe didn’t start the fire / But Reagan fanned it higher / It’s been burning since the ’80s / And now it’s eating babies...
So, of course, when it offered to make an expanded version, who were we to say no? Here’s the result.
You are welcome.

Reagan's premise Government is the problem lacks self-awareness that government run Military, Police, Fire, Legal, and the list goes on. There is undeniable Public Trust. Is he saying Public Trust is a problem. Maybe it is because, Public return on private use is so miniscule. The Public give research grants and what is the return on that investment? I am not debating Public sector efficiency but I am debating where services will never be done if government didn't step in. Anybody who lives in Rural America or as they apt put it as fly over country would not have postal service, water, electricity, telephone etc if govenment didn't step in. It is not from business standpoint economic nor profitable. It is really exhausting have to explain this point over and over again. It time to talk about Public Capitalism. If government takes risks as technological and structural investment should it reap some of rewards if they come? Hey, we will give you that grant but expect percentage of that intellectual property. These oligarchs have been mulching off the government far too long with giving the government back the investment they provided through rebates, tax incentatives and other programs. It is not enough for these greedy bastards anymore .. they want it ALL.
I believe you’re right. I have the constitution.
