You know, history has a funny way of echoing louder when we ignore it.
This week, for the first time in history, an American was elected pope. Pope Leo the Fourteenth—formerly Cardinal Robert Prevost from Chicago—has taken the helm of the Catholic Church. And while the white smoke was still rising over the Vatican, I couldn’t help but think:
This isn’t just about a new pope. It’s about two American leaders standing on the world stage right now.
One sits in the Vatican, preaching inclusion, peace, and justice.
The other sits in a golden cage on Truth Social, preaching division, cruelty, and greed.
One leader is trying to be a moral compass.
The other is a walking cautionary tale.
And here’s where it gets real, folks. There is historical precedent for this kind of moment. In 1978, the Catholic Church shocked the world by electing a Polish pope—John Paul II. This was during the height of Soviet tyranny. And make no mistake: his election was a direct spiritual challenge to authoritarianism. A signal that the Church wasn’t going to kneel to the Kremlin. That people still had dignity. That faith didn’t belong to the boot on their neck.
Fast-forward to 2025: America is staring down its own brand of tyranny. We’ve got a twice-impeached, four-times indicted dictator wannabe, who now thinks he gets to decide who pays taxes and what justice even means. He’s gutting the Constitution like it’s a steak at Mar-a-Lago. And some people still cheer him on like he’s Moses parting the damn Red Sea.
So, what does the Church do? It picks an American. Not a MAGA bishop. Not some fascist in a cassock. A man who worked with the poor in Peru. Who speaks out on racial justice. Who supports humane immigration. Who knows the value of humility.
Now look—I’m not here to sanctify the Church or any leader. No leader is flawless. Not this pope. Not the last one. Not Biden. Not Obama. Hell, not even FDR.
But flawed leadership is not an excuse for tyranny.
And too many Americans are out here excusing tyranny because the guy selling it wears a flag pin and tells them who to blame.
You want to know the real battle we’re in?
It’s not left vs. right.
It’s not Democrats vs. Republicans.
It’s compassion vs. control.
Truth vs. cult.
Liberty vs. lies.
Pope Leo may wear the white robe, but Trump’s wearing the red hat—and only one of them is trying to save souls. The other one’s just trying to sell his.
This is the tale of two American leaders.
And the question now is: which one will we follow?
