Is Zohran Mamdani a Democratic Socialist or a Marxist? What “Seizing the Means of Production” Really Means for NYC, the Constitution, and the Future of the American Left
Your video of this moment is wonky, fading in and out. It obscures the context of Mamdani’s words. So I hope that the next time you write such an accusation you include better evidence. I am not a Marxist, but really, anything would be better than the fascist dictator under whose thumb we are all living now. I just discovered your newsletter a couple of weeks ago and had been reading it enthusiastically. But I have discovered this week that we disagree on several important points, including this one. So…not sure I’ll be sticking around for more.
There is no attempted take over. The policies are meant to help everyday people. More democratic policies in combination with our capitalist system work for the many. These policies will catch on.
Center leftists are just corporatists. If they lived in a red state they’d be conservatives. Bernie has been telling us Demicratic Socialism is like what they have in many Western European countries - nothing Marxist here. Since Clinton, Democrats have abandoned the working class. Is it any wonder they lose elections? Their former base stays home. If we are counting on the likes of Schumer & Pelosi to save us we might as well throw in the towel now.
I agree with Alice Penchenski on this. Many more posts like this & I’ll be looking elsewhere for updates.
I agree with you completely. While it is time for new leadership in NYC, collectivism, whether in the once defunct USSR, Russia or NYC is not the answer. Why do sincere and sensitive Democrats have to call their ideological calling Democratic Socialism since it is a label that upsets so many folks. If you strip away the ideological babble, the center left folks are Capitalistic Humanists. They believe in private enterprise and the right to personal wealth, just not at the expense of the working class or our poorest most vulnerable citizens and immigrants. Every human deserves the fundamental rights to healthcare, personal freedom, a living wage and a decent place to live. Democrats need to wake up and stop being idiotic about ideological labels, reject extremism in all forms and work to GET ELECTED rather than allow an extremely divisive candidate run for election in NYC, the greatest city in America.
He’s not a Marxist. This is yet another liberal smear tactic.

The attack against Mamdani seems dishonest. Maybe you just don’t like him for reasons you can’t name?

What are you afraid of? Do you really think this „Seizing“ is even possible?
However, I agree, this idea of seizing shouldn‘t be a goal. And it hasn‘t worked yet and it won‘t.

Capitalism certainly has its pitfalls to the nTH degree! Let's try something else.
Stop maligning this inspiring person who is talking about policies that already exist in some America cities and are successful
